John 8:38-59

"I speak the things which I have seen with My Father; therefore you also do the things which you heard from 1your father."
They answered and said to Him, "Abraham is 2our father." Jesus said to them, "3If you are Abraham's children, do the deeds of Abraham.
"But as it is, 4you are seeking to kill Me, a man who has 5told you the truth, which I heard from God; this Abraham did not do.
"You are doing the deeds of 6your father." They said to Him, "We were not born of fornication; 7we have one Father: God."
Jesus said to them, "If God were your Father, 8you would love Me, 9for I proceeded forth and have come from God, for I have 10not even come on My own initiative, but 11He sent Me.
"Why * do you not understand 12what I am saying? It is because you cannot * 13hear My word.
"14You are of 15your father the devil, and 16you want to do the desires of your father. 17He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth because 18there is no truth in him. Whenever he speaks a lie, he 19speaks from his own nature, for he is a liar and the father of lies.
"But because 20I speak the truth, you do not believe Me.
"Which one of you convicts Me of sin? If 21I speak truth, why * do you not believe Me?
"22He who is of God hears the words of God; for this reason you do not hear them, because you are not of God."
23The Jews answered and said to Him, "Do we not say rightly that You are a 24Samaritan and 25have a demon?"
Jesus answered, "I do not 26have a demon; but I honor My Father, and you dishonor Me.
"But 27I do not seek My glory; there is One who seeks and judges.
"Truly, truly, I say to you, if anyone 28keeps My word he will never * 29see death."
30The Jews said to Him, "Now we know that You 31have a demon. Abraham died, and the prophets also; and You say, 'If anyone 32keeps My word, he will never * 33taste of death.'
"Surely You 34are not greater than our father Abraham, who died? The prophets died too; whom do You make Yourself out to be?"
Jesus answered, "35If I glorify Myself, My glory is nothing; 36it is My Father who glorifies Me, of whom you say, 'He is our God ';
and 37you have not come to know Him, 38but I know Him; and if I say that I do not know Him, I will be 39a liar like you, 40but I do know Him and 41keep His word.
"42Your father Abraham 43rejoiced to see My day, and he saw it and was glad."
44So the Jews said to Him, "You are not yet fifty years old, and have You seen Abraham?"
Jesus said to them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was born, 45I am."
Therefore they 46picked up stones to throw at Him, but Jesus 47hid Himself and went out of the temple.
