1Therefore, let us fearif, while a promiseremains of entering His rest, anyone of you may seem to have 1comeshort of it.
2
For indeed we have had goodnewspreached to us, just as they also; but 2the word they heard did not profit them, because it was not united by faith in thosewhoheard.
3
For we who have believedenter that rest, just as He has said, "3AS I SWORE IN MY WRATH, THEY SHALL NOT ENTER MY REST," although His works were finished4from the foundation of the world.
4
For He has said5somewhereconcerning the seventh day: "6AND GOD7RESTED ON THE SEVENTHDAY FROM ALL HIS WORKS ";
5
and again in this passage, "8THEY SHALL NOT ENTER MY REST."
6
Therefore, since it remains for some to enter it, and thosewhoformerly had goodnewspreached to them failed to enterbecause of 9disobedience,
7
He againfixes a certainday, "Today," sayingthroughDavidaftersolong a timejust10as has been saidbefore, "11TODAYIF YOU HEAR HIS VOICE, DO NOT HARDEN YOUR HEARTS."
8
For 12ifJoshua had given them rest, He would not have spoken of anotherdayafter that.
9
So there remains a Sabbathrest for the people of God.
10
For the one who has entered His rest has himselfalso13rested from his works, as 14God did from His.
11
Therefore let us be diligent to enter that rest, so* that noone will fall, through following the same15example of 16disobedience.
12
For 17the word of God is 18living and 19active and sharperthananytwo-edged20sword, and piercing as far as the division of 21soul and 22spirit, of bothjoints and marrow, and 23able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.
13
And 24there is nocreaturehidden from His sight, but allthings are 25open and laidbare to the eyes of Him with whom we have to do.
14
Therefore, since we have a great26highpriestwho has 27passedthrough the heavens, Jesus28the Son of God, let us holdfast our 29confession.
15
For we do not have30a highpriestwhocannot*sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been 31tempted in allthings as we are, yet 32withoutsin.
16
Therefore let us 33drawnear with 34confidence to the throne of grace, so that we may receivemercy and findgrace to help in time of need.
